The biggest new video games releasing the week of 4/17/23

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

Spring is the air, and the outside world beckons with warm weather and sunshine. But that’s not going to stop gamers from staying in and checking out some new games! 2023 has gotten off to an excellent start for video games, with hits like the Dead Space remake releasing alongside indie gems like Season: A Letter to the Future. This week looks to continue that trend with some wonderful new video game releases.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Dead Island 2 (4/21)

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Sers X/S

After a long and tumultuous development — which included being worked on by three different developers — Dead Island 2 is finally set to drop this week. It takes place a decade after the first game, which released two console generations ago in 2011. A new and stronger zombie outbreak has forced California to be fully quarantined, and the game’s open world will include Los Angeles and San Francisco. Gameplay will be as gory as zombie games get, with the player stabbing, slicing, and stomping their way through hordes of the undead.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story (4/18)

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

The League of Legends universe continues to expand! After successes like the turn-based The Ruined King and the Netflix series Arcane comes The Mageseeker. It’s a pixel-art action RPG from the creators of Moonlighter. You’ll take control of Sylas, a newly freed mage who sets out to liberate the realm from those who oppress magic wielders. Sylas can turn his enemies’ magic against them, master devastating melee attacks, and use his chains to traverse the environment.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores (4/19)

Platform: PS5

The next chapter of Aloy’s journey begins in Burning Shores. Only available after beating the campaign of Horizon Forbidden West, the expansion sees Aloy venturing to the ruins of what we know to be Los Angeles, which is now a dangerous volcanic archipelago. A new threat, along with new machines, rises up to challenge Aloy, but she’ll be aided along by a new companion. While the base game was available on both PlayStations 4 and 5, the DLC will only be released on PS5 for $19.99.

Also worth checking out this week: Minecraft Legends, Stray Blade, Disney Speedstorm, and Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters on PS4 and Switch.
