If you’re interested in the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is the movie to watch. The Marvels is set to combine the stories of three Marvel superheroes, Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers, and Monica Rambeau-whose major appearance was in Disney + Wanda VisionAnt-Man and The Wasp: Quantamania kicked off Phase 5 of the MCU, and The Marvels, is the third movie, scheduled to release later this year. If you want to know more, here is everything we know about MCU’s The Marvels.

The Marvels Release Date

There have been plenty of shakeups in the MCU, including delays of recently announced MCU series and movies, so it’s no surprise that it also affected this film. The Marvels was officially confirmed by Marvel Studios in 2019 and was scheduled for release on July 8th, 2022, then November 11th, 2022, then February 2023, then July 28th, 2023, and finally, November 10th, 2023. This seems to be the final date because the third Ant-Man movie took the February slot. The change of dates was allegedly due to the comprehensive post-production work needed for the film.

The Marvels Cast

The Marvels’ main cast will feature Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, played by Brie Larson, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, and Maria Rambeau, played by Wanda Vision’s Teyonah Parris. Carol Danvers last appeared in the post-credit scenes of Ms. Marvel and Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings. She always showed up to help The Avengers, most recently in their fight against Thanos.

Iman Vellani reprises her role as Ms. Marvel, which she played in the MCU series Ms. Marvel. She’s a teenager from New Jersey who discovers the bangle she inherited from her grandmother gives her superpowers. She can extend her arms, access cosmic energy, and teleport. At the end of the series, Khan discovers she is a mutant, so she is the only one in her family who can access that power.

Maria Rambeau will also be the main character in The Marvels movie. Her last appearance was in Wanda Vision, but you might have seen a younger version of her in Captain Marvel as Maria Rambeau’s daughter.

Samuel L. Jackson reprises her role as Nick Fury. And he is spotting his infamous eyepatch, missing in the trailer of his upcoming series, Secret Invasion. Zawe Ashton has been cast as the new big bad in this movie, General Dar-Benn – a Kree general who has taken over the empire. Park Seo-Joon from Parasite is also joining the MCU in an undisclosed role.

The Marvels Plot Details

If you watched the Ms Marvel finale, you know there was a cosmic problem with Khan switching places with Carol Danvers. And that’s a big issue for Captain Marvel and her day-to-day job.

According to Marvel Studios’ official film synopsis, Carol Danvers has defeated the Kree and destroyed the Supreme Intelligence, which leaves her with the burden of trying to bring peace in the destabilized universe. When her quests lead her into a wormhole, her powers and that of Ms. Marvel and her estranged niece, Captain Monica Rambeau, become entangled, causing them to switch bodies whenever they use their abilities. The trio is forced to work together to save the universe as ‘The Marvels’.

While Kamala fangirling over meeting her idol, Captain Marvel will be fun, she will likely also be impressed by S.W.O.R.D. Agent, Captain Rambeau. But most viewers will be interested in the relationship between Captain Rambeau and Carol Danvers. From what we saw on Wanda Vision, Monica still harbors some resentment as to why Carol Danvers disappeared from their lives and never visited when Maria was dying from cancer. So viewers will tune into cosmic and personal drama on November 10th, 2023.

With Nick Fury appearing to help The Marvels, it seems he will survive the war versus the Skrulls in Secret Invasion. Brie Larson told Good Morning America that while the first movie focused more on who she was and her superhuman abilities, this movie will be more about her complexities and how she can’t always make the best decisions despite being one of the good guys.

Who is Making The Marvels?

Nia DaCosta

Marvel loves to make history with their films, and they are doing the same with this MCU movie. Nia DaCosta will be the first black woman to direct a Marvel movie. While the studio has already had three women directing a Marvel film, DaCosta is the youngest to take on this role. Some of her previous work includes the crime drama Little Woods starring Tessa Thompson and Lily James and 2021’s horror film Candyman which Jordan Peele co-wrote.

She is a Marvel fan and goes to see all the movies no matter the reviews, so she seems to be the best choice to direct the film. She grew up with the Marvel comics, watching Fantastic Four and Spider-Man, so she knows much more about the source material. The screenwriters on the show include Nia DaCosta, Wanda Vision’s Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, who worked on Loki Season 1, and Zeb Wells, who worked on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Nick Fury

With months before this movie is released in theatres, you have more than enough time to catch up on Marvel movies and tv shows that will familiarize you with The Marvels’ cast.

You must watch 2019’s Captain Marvel, which introduced Carol Danvers to the MCU. You should also watch Wanda Vision, which presents the adult Monica Rambuea and what she’s been up to since she was last seen as a child in Captain Marvel. Rambeau gets her powers in this Disney + series and shares how she feels about Captain Marvel. Lastly, Ms. Marvel is a must-watch because it introduces the number 1 Captain Marvel fan, Kamala Khan. While dealing with many teenage issues, she gains powers and has to fight to save herself and her family. The six-episode series is available on Disney +.

Although Secret Invasion hasn’t been released, you must watch it to understand Nick Fury’s return in this Captain Marvel sequel. After its release, we will realize how its events will tie into The Marvels movie.
