The biggest new video games releasing the week of 5/29/23

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

Spring is the air, and the outside world beckons with warm weather and sunshine. But that’s not going to stop gamers from staying in and checking out some new video games! While The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has drawn most everyone’s attention this month, May still has plenty of exciting new releases to play and fall in love with.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

System Shock (5/30)

Platform: PC

2023 is proving remakes are the new black, and System Shock continues that trend this week. Released in 1994, the original System Shock was an innovative and influential game for its time, and some developers who helped create it eventually went on to make the Bioshock games. Nightdive Studios, a developer mostly known for ports and remasters, acquired the System Shock license recently and immediately went to work on remaking the game. It’s a first-person shooter in which you’ll battle a rogue AI hell-bent on turning the people of Earth into an army of cyborgs and mutants.

Everdream Valley (5/20)

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One

You can never have too many cute and cozy farming sims. Everdream Valley captures the feeling of being a kid again as you’ll play as a young child staying at their grandparent’s farm. You’ll grow crops, raise animals, and build out the farm to create an animal paradise. There’s even a sprinkle of magic in the game; at night you’ll inhabit the farm animals through dreams.

Street Fighter 6 (6/2)

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Street Fighter 6 looks to bring new elements to an old-school franchise. It’ll include a “world tour mode,” a single-player story mode in which you’ll create a custom fighter, explore 3D environments, and challenge other martial artists in 2D bouts. Players can use their created fighters in the Battle Hub for ranked or unranked online matches, and the Fighting Ground includes a training mode, arcade battles, and local and online fights. Reviews have already started pouring in, and they’re promising Street Fighter 6 to be one of the best in the long-standing franchise for veterans and newcomers alike.
