Marvel Legends: New wave for ‘The Marvels’ revealed

Hasbro’s Marvel Legends wave for ‘The Marvels’ leaves much to be desired.

On Tuesday, Hasbro revealed a new Marvel Legends wave featuring characters from the upcoming The Marvels movie. Let’s take a look at what’s offered and if you should pick it up.

All of the following figures will retail for $24.99. They’ll be available for preorder from most major retailers on Wednesday, June 7 at 1:00 PM EDT.

Photon

This is by far the best figure in the wave. In addition to the portrait being a good likeness of Teyonah Parris, the costume looks fantastic. Unfortunately, Photon’s only accessory is a pair of alternate hands. The fact that Hasbro cheaped out on providing any effect accessories with this character is pretty galling.

And no, the Build-A-Figure part does not count as an accessory.

Captain Marvel

This figure at least got one effect piece, though. It’s also a definite upgrade over the last release — although not enough to justify how much more you’ll be paying just a few years later.

Ms. Marvel

What the heck is going on with Kamala’s face?

Not even that amazing Goose accessory can distract from how badly Hasbro messed up here. In addition to looking nothing like Iman Vellani, the character instead appears to be a cosplaying extra from that Smile horror movie.

All that being said, Ms. Marvel’s awful portrait isn’t the worst of the bunch. That honor goes to the next entry, which is also the first of the comic-based offerings.

Commander Rogers

If the Red Skull’s plan was to defeat Steve Rogers by secretly injecting him with Botox, then it was a smashing success. Also, that transparent shield looks horrible.

Iron Man (Heroes Return)

Because if there’s one thing Gen X and Elder Millenials want to be reminded of, it’s the Heroes Reborn era of Marvel Comics.

Pass.

This figure, on the other hand, is absurd/awesome enough to consider picking up.

Amadeus Cho deserves so much better than this.

The portrait is good, but the dull paint and old tooling make it easy to pass on this one until the inevitable “deluxe” release.
