You made it to Friday, which means it’s time for Fantastic Five! This edition of our look back at the best comics of the week is a Marvel-heavy one, as the House of Ideas grabs four of our five spots. Let’s take a look at the books!
#5: Peacemaker Tries Hard! #2
Gushing with more vulgarity and potty humor than you can reasonably rinse off with a hose, Peacemaker Tries Hard! #2 will leave you laughing once you close its back cover. If you’re looking for deep storytelling with meaningful metacommentary, you’re barking up the wrong tree. However, if you’re looking for unadulterated vulgarity and humor, this issue is comic book bliss.

#4: Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #13
Lanzing and Kelly still put Peggy in an interesting enough place where she’s bitter that her morals had been compromised as such but carrying on nonetheless. And in the issue’s ending pages, the final showdown is teased with the “wolf” becoming much more literal. It’s so comic booky and so fun and it’s a shame that Symbol of Truth and Sentinel of Liberty have to end at all, but at least we know they’re going out with a bang.

#3: X-Men #23
Action-packed and filled to the brim with drama, X-Men #23 is excellent. In a time when the looming Fall of X has made many new fans anxious, well-made comics like this instill confidence that the X-Office has plenty of great stories to tell and is not slacking off anytime soon. There’s a lot of X-Men coming out this week, but this issue cannot be missed.

#2: Loki #1
Loki #1 captures the modern essence of the title character while supplying an intriguing adventure for him to fix. Or is it to escape from? Watters clearly understands the character and his place in Marvel Comics today, and we’re all the better for it.

#1: Daredevil #12
“Dancing with Fire” is a great summary of Matt and Elektra’s relationship. Zdarsky, Chechetto, and Wilson take their connection further as this creative team approaches the end. Do not miss this issue, as it sets up a huge showdown that’ll have Daredevil fans talking.
