The biggest new video games releasing the week of 7/17/23

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The Summer of Gaming gave us plenty of excellent video games to look forward to this year and next, but let’s not forget about the games you’ll be playing sooner rather than later. While The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has drawn most everyone’s attention this year, July still has plenty of exciting new releases to play and fall in love with.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island (7/20)

Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

The Monkey Island renaissance continues this week with Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island. The crossover brings three new tall tales and locations to explore from the Monkey Island games. The tales, full of secrets and easter eggs, will be added over the course of three months, with the first dropping July 20. The update will be free to anyone who owns Sea of Thieves and will also come to Xbox Game Pass.

Viewfinder (7/18)

PlatformsPC, PS5

Viewfinder is a mind-bending first-person puzzle game where you bring pictures to life as means of interacting with the world and solving puzzles. “Challenge perception, redefine reality, and reshape the world” you inhabit, reads the game’s official description. In addition to photographs, you’ll use screenshots, sketches, paintings, and postcards to bring the world to life and solve its puzzles.

Pikmin 4 (7/21)

PlatformsSwitch

Fans have been waiting a full decade for a new numbered Pikmin release, and that wait finally pays off this week with Pikmin 4. You’ll use the adorable pint-sized Pikmin to explore an alien world by scavenging for treasure, locating your lost crew, and battling enemies. Each Pikmin has its own strengths, and it’ll be up to you to deploy them successfully. Still not sold? You can head over to the Nintendo Store to download a demo and give Pikmin 4 a spin!
