The biggest new video games releasing the week of 8/7/23

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The Summer of Gaming gave us plenty of excellent video games to look forward to this year and next, but let’s not forget about the games you’ll be playing sooner rather than later. While The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has drawn most everyone’s attention this year, this summer still has plenty of exciting new releases to play and fall in love with.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical (8/10)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One

Stray Gods combines the branching pathways you’d expect of a Triple A RPG with ballads from some of today’s top voice actors. Starring The Last of Us leading trio Laura Bailey, Ashley Johnson, and Troy Baker alongside standouts like Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, Khary Payton, and Anthony Rapp, Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical promises to be a rip-roaring good time. It follows Grace, a young woman accused of murdering the last muse. She must prove her innocence using her newfound musical powers to the Greek gods.

Stray (8/10)

Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One

Previously a PlayStation console exclusive, Stray arrives on Xbox platforms this Thursday. The cyberpunk adventure stars an adorable orange cat in a post-human world populated by robots. It’s an excellent platformer and absolutely nails playing as a cat from a gameplay perspective. I found Stray to be one of 2022’s best games, and wrote, “Come for the cute cat, stay for the loveable robots, expertly crafted world, top-notch music, and emotional story.”

Atlas Fallen (8/10)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

Lord of the Fallen and The Surge developer Deck13 is back with action-RPG Atlas Fallen. Equipped with an ancient gauntlet that gives them power over sand, players will traverse a unique and mysterious fantasy world. You’ll hunt ancient monsters across several open maps and use the powers of the gauntlet and its shape-shifting sand weapons to take them down. You’ll be able to play the campaign solo or with a friend via co-op.
