Declan Shalvey’s sci-fi spy thriller Old Dog is getting a process edition, now available to back on Kickstarter. Old Dog: Dossier contains behind the scenes material, such as the fill script for issue one, along with pencils, inks and the layouts for the entire ‘REDACT ONE’ arc. That’s the first story arc of the series, which is getting a collected edition on September 20th. Old Dog: Dossier also includes annotations on pages, accompanied with an in-depth interview with Shalvey, conducted by David Harper (SKTCHD/Off Panel Podcast).
“I’ve always wanted to make a book like this, to really dig into the process of how I make comics. As the sole creator of OLD DOG, it felt like this was the right opportunity to do so. I made every inch of this series, so have something to say about all the disciplines of how it came together” says Shalvey.
So what’s Old Dog about?
OLD DOG itself follows Jack Lynch, a once-promising CIA operative with a now failed career, is tasked with one final mission …that goes horribly wrong. He wakes years later to a changed world with even deeper changes within him. When a shadowy group offers Lynch a second chance for a life of adventure, he finds himself tasked with a series of dangerous missions paired with the last person he could ever imagine. In order to adjust, this old dog will have to learn some new tricks…

The Old Dog Dossier is the first time Shalvey extensively reveals his own process, across all aspects of how he creates his comics. The Kickstarter campaign not only offers the Dossier itself, but a chance as some exclusive rewards, such as kickstarter-only prints, bookmarks, an Issue Zero aschan, Shalvey head-sketches and a chance to get a rare commission from the artist.
