The Summer of Gaming has come to an end, but no matter! Fall is always a wonderful time for new video games, and this season sees potential Game of the Year contenders come out week after week. Sandwiched between them are plenty of indie games to ensure it’ll be impossible for you to not find an exciting new release to play and fall in love with.
Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.
Mythforce (9/12)
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Your favorite Saturday morning cartoons come to life! Mythforce, inspired by the aesthetic and design of 80s cartoons like He-Man and Thundercats, is a new first-person roguelike. You’ll use swords & sorcery to take down enemies in an ever-changing castle dungeon. Mythforce allows you to play solo or cooperatively with groups up to four players.
Eternights (9/12)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5
When the apocalypse comes, there’s only two things left to do: fight and date. Eternights is an action dating sim where you’ll try to find love in a post-apocalyptic world. Humans have turned into monsters, and you’ll have to fight them off in search of a cure. When not fighting for your life, you’ll get to know the cast of Eternights and find love among them.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask (9/13)
Platform: Nintendo Switch
I was probably higher on Pokémon Scarlet and Violet than most last fall, writing in my review, “I’m choosing to enjoy Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for what they are while acknowledging the ways they could be better. This generation of Pokémon may not be the best, but I love it nonetheless.” So it comes as no surprise that I was excited as all hell when The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero was announced. The first part, The Teal Mask, drops this week and has trainers taking a special school trip to the Kitakami region. You’ll meet new characters from the Blueberry Academy and together investigate the area’s local folklore, no doubt encountering some legendaries along the way. Paradox version of Cobalion and Raikou will join the roster in addition to hundreds of returning Pokémon from past generations. You also still have time to battle and capture Mewtwo as its raid lasts until September 17.
Also worth checking out: Gunbrella, Dune: Spice Wars, and Solar Ash on Switch and Xbox consoles.
