Cyberzoic Kickstarter officially launches

The Cyberzoic era has officially begun.

After a long wait filled with incredible teasers and updates, Dave Silva & Creative Beast Studio have finally launched the Kickstarter campaign for their new Cyberzoic toyline.

As you can see from the article’s title picture, the 1/18th scale line will feature armored dinosaurs, prehistoric mammals, and warriors along with some massive dragons. Sculpts, paint applications, and articulation will all be done with the same phenomenal level of quality that Silva’s Beasts of the Mesozoic line is known for. While the dragons and armor can’t be scientifically accurate (OR CAN IT?), the dinosaurs can all fit in with your regular Beasts of the Mesozoic dinosaur displays — or you can put Cyberzoic armor onto your favorite Beasts of the Mesozoic dinosaur!

It should also be noted that the armor for each beast can also convert into its own separate vehicle/machine, adding even more play value and awesomeness. There are also plans for a comic outlying the Cyberzoic mythos, which would be included with the four original launch figures.

Speaking of Cyberzoic lore, here’s Silva’s explanation of the line along with the launch video:

2170 AD.  AI and synthetic ecosystems have solved the problems of overpopulation and hunger. Humanity has now turned its entire focus to exploring the cosmos. Soon manned space flights discover an Earth-like planet capable of sustaining life, which they name Gaea 2. The planet is home to a variety of alien wildlife —including highly-intelligent ‘dragons’.  As humanity studies and colonizes the planet, the dragons fight back, pushing the peaceful visitors to the brink of extinction.

But all is not well on Earth either. One day, all communication with Gaea 2 stops. There are no more supply shipments and contact with their home planet is completely lost. Soon, the people of Earth are presumed dead except for Gaea 2’s scientific and military residents. But the humans won’t go down so easily. Using the research technology they brought with them, they create biological weapons of their own: genetically-engineered embryos that “birth” Earth’s mightiest prehistoric creatures. Programmed to obey their masters and outfitted in protective armor, these terrifying beasts help the humans push back against the dragon attacks while they terraform Gaea 2. Thus saving the human species, but destroying the world’s natural habitats.

With the threat of human extinction seemingly resolved, the colonizers split into factions. Each clan champions its own philosophy about ensuring the long-term survival of humanity. Bitter conflicts erupt leading to power struggles, uneasy alliances, and devastating new technology.

Who will win this new war for Gaea 2? Or will humanity eradicate itself?

Now let’s take a look at some of the awesome figures from the first wave. Pricing for the Kickstarter will obviously be less than it ends up being for retail — especially if you combine the sets.

Allosaurus Set

For people that don’t want to collect a line that is basically Dino-Riders on steroids with a more interesting mythology:

  1. What’s wrong with you?
  2. The first option allows you to only purchase the Allosaurus, which is a dinosaur a lot of collectors have been wanting.

Smilodon Set

I don’t care what science says — that’s a Sabertooth Tiger. It’s also going to be mine along with the Dragolina figure. I want to get the Allosaurus set, as well, but this next one is making that a bit difficult with regard to the toy budget.

Arctic Dragon

We’ve already covered this gorgeous figure before, but something about seeing it ready to be purchased is still all types of exciting.

If you want all three of these figures, you can buy them as a set for an even greater reduced price (which will probably be what I end up doing).

The campaign needs to reach $205,000 by November 2 at 9:00 PM to be fully funded. Considering that it is almost halfway there at the time of this writing (and barely six hours after launch), I think we’ll be fine.

What folks should really be keeping an eye on are the stretch goals.

$225,000: Achillobater set

$255,000: Mystery box set

$285,000: Deinonychus set

I’ve decided to hate the Fire Clan simply because I likely can’t afford to buy any of them.

The rest of the stretch goals haven’t been revealed yet, but Silva was kind enough to post most of them on the Creative Beast Studio Facebook page…and yes, that beautiful budget-busting Lizard Dragon will be one of them.
