The biggest new video games releasing the week of 10/9/23

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The Summer of Gaming has come to an end, but no matter! Fall is always a wonderful time for new video games, and this season sees potential Game of the Year contenders release week after week. Sandwiched between them are plenty of indie games to ensure it’ll be impossible for you to not find an exciting new release to play and fall in love with.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Long Gone Days (10/10)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S

Don’t let its pixelated charming graphics deceive you — Long Gone Days tells a heavy story. Set in a modern war-torn world, Long Gone Days has players navigate language and cultural barriers to uncover the common humanity between peoples and discover the truth behind the military operation they’re a part of. The game is full of essential encounters as your choices will affect the world and people around you.

Terra Alia (10/11)

Platform: Switch

Describing itself as a “language discovery RPG,” Terra Alia transports players to a world brimming with magic. Every nation has its own rules governing magic use, and to learn another nation’s magic one must first learn its language. The game features over 100 words to learn across 10 languages, and you’ll need to learn them to uncover Terra Alia‘s mysteries.

Lords of the Fallen (10/13)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S

Dark Souls 4 releases Friday in the form of Lords of the Fallen. I’m not being facetious — developer Hexworks has been open about wanting to be the silver medalist to FromSoftware in terms making soulslikes. “We want to be the second reference [after FromSoft], because right now there is no clear second reference,” Hexworks executive producer Saul Gascon said. We’ll have to wait and see if Lords of the Fallen rightly positions itself as the next great souslike or rather an inferior imitation. Lords of the Fallen promises an epic quest, horrifying monsters, strenuous combat, and two parallel worlds to explore.
