Right now, the DC Universe is filled with buzz for the Dawn of DC. After Knight Terrors ended, DC has already started to reignite the fire behind the new era. Yet that isn’t the only thing that DC has been building up. The Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse panel at New York Comic Con sets up the rest of the DC multiverse as Dawn develops.
Led by Brian Buccellato, Tate Brombal, Tirso Cons, Leandro Fernandez, Clay Mann, Seth Mann, Tom Taylor, and Matthew Rosenberg, the panel offered a whole host of new details about the DC multiverse.
Early on, the panelists gave away early looks at Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong — something DC has been excited for. Fans lined up in front of a microphone to roar for the privilege of getting some early copies. As each did their best Godzilla or King Kong, the screens showed some looks at the interior artwork in issues #2 and #3, which featured Superman facing off against Godzilla.
The next reveal was somewhat more surprising — and more monumental. DC announced the return of the Elseworlds branding. Fan-favorite creators, including Tom Taylor and Matthew Rosenberg revealed their newest Elseworlds comics — all to come out next year with no dates currently attached. AIPT already covered Elseworlds’ return in-depth, but the new titles will be Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age, Dark Knights of Steel: All-Winter, Batman the Barbarian, Green Lantern: Dark, Batman: Nightfire, and Dark Knights of Steel. Joining them will also be DC vs. Vampires: World War V.
The book that received the most attention during the panel was DC vs. Vampires: World War V. While World War V‘s official synopsis merely involves Barbara Gordon, Rosenberg promised that the run will feature more than just the synopsis. Six months after the end, the vampires have blotted out the sun, and there’s a “cold war” between the vampires and the humans.
Gordon will be leading a team including Wonder Woman and Gorilla Grod. Damian Wayne will be facing off against them all and making a play for the vampire throne and is expected to make a major play. Jayna of the Wonder Twins will also be returning in a shocking way. By carrying her brother’s thumb with her, Rosenberg promises that she will have both of their powers and will be permanently changed.
Dark Knights of Steel also earned a shout-out, as Tom Taylor jokingly criticized writer Jay Kristoff, saying “Screw you, man. You’re not supposed to be this good when you first come into this.” Taylor also described that he initially turned down the chance to write the world-renowned DCeased and only agreed when the idea refused to leave his head.
Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse opened up new insight into a classic multiverse. DC is kicking NYCC 2023 off with a bang. The next few days are guaranteed to be interesting.
