Fall is in full swing, and this season sees potential Game of the Year contenders release week after week. Sandwiched between them are plenty of indie games to ensure it’ll be impossible for you to not find exciting video games to play and fall in love with.
Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.
The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria (10/24)
Platform: PC
After Gollum in May, The Lord of the Rings isn’t having quite the best year in gaming. Developer Free Range Games looks to change that this week with Return to Moria. Set 70 years after the story of the books and films, it’ll have players explore Khazad-dûm (Moria). John Rhys-Davies returns to voice Gimli in this co-op survival crafting game with a heavy emphasis on exploration. Return to Moria releases on PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive. The PS5 version is delayed until December, while an Xbox counterpart is targeting an early 2024 release.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 (10/24)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S
Konami celebrates 35 years of Metal Gear with the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 1. It’ll include the first five major entries of the stealth-action franchise: Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The first three games are straight up ports with minimal changes (like making sure button prompts match modern hardware) while Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater are the HD remastered versions from 2011. Standalone versions of the three Metal Gear Solid games will also be purchasable if you don’t want to dive into the entire collection.
Alan Wake II (10/27)
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
After 13 years and a few attempts at getting off the ground, Alan Wake II finally releases this Friday. It’s a survival horror game starring the titular novelist and a new character, FBI Agent Saga Anderson. Together they are trapped in a murder-filled horror story penned by Wake as an attempt to escape the nightmare he’s been trapped in for 13 years. It’ll be the third entry in the Remedy Connected Universe after its predecessor and Control.
Also worth checking out: Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, Dave the Diver on Switch, Ghostrunner 2, Just Dance 2024, and Mineko’s Night Market on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
