‘Green Lantern’ #6 review

Sinestro wants off of Earth. Can Hal’s new ring help stop him in time?

I’ve heard from other readers of Green Lantern that they want some answers. Luckily, writer Jeremy Adams gives some in this issue, and they might hit harder than you wanted. Green Lantern #6 features art by Xermanico and colors by Romulo Fajardo Jr, but there’s some additional art by Scott Godlewski. To get back on track, in the last issue, Sinestro was able to manifest a Red Rage Lantern ring, and we know that he wants to get off Earth, but just how far is he willing to go for that goal? And what will he do before he leaves?

From our preview, you get to see the issue’s opening, and I appreciate the narrative Adams provides in Hal Jordan’s voice. The voice is perfect for the character and the tone of the situation. In the back issues of various Green Lantern comics, we have seen the ring bearers switch rings or wield different colors, but to see Sinestro with Rage is pretty exciting. What helps to amp up the danger of Sinestro’s Rage is the fact that Sinestro isn’t acting like a mindless fool with the ring. Instead, we have a cold, calculating villain empowered by their justified anger, which is scary!

Jeremy Adams does a great job of pushing Hal Jordan and Sinestro for this issue. With Sinestro, it is interesting to see how he handles the power of rage. Hints have dropped that something is happening within the Emotional Spectrum, so it will be interesting to see how that happening could be played into Sinestro changing color and emotion. On the other hand, Jordan is performing some incredible feats; I remember when the joke was that Jordan would make a boxing glove, but now we have him making mechs and splitting his power to cover opposite ends of the Earth. Adams is giving these two great character moments and fantastic visual feats.

Xermanico carries most of the pages with his art, but there are a couple that Scott Godlewski provides. It does make one wonder if there were changes in the story that caused a need for new pages or if it was just to help make the deadline. Altogether, the two artists’ styles work so nicely that you shouldn’t see too much difference, but it does show in the faces. Godlewski’s characters have a touch of anime vibe in their expressions. Either way, both artists use their skills to showcase the Lantern energy astonishingly with their rendering of imagination and the constructs.

Romulo Fajardo Jr helps to light things up perfectly and helps the energy pop off the page. After Jordan and Sinestro head on their constructs, the use of white light is an interesting choice; hopefully, that will be a topic in future issues. Right now, there is an excellent talent set in the Green Lantern books, and with Jeremy Adams, Xermanico, and Fajardo, there is great promise with Hal Jordan’s book. I’m sure now that there is a final answer to one character’s fate, there will be discussion, but I can’t wait to hear the shock of another character’s return.

Green Lantern #6 gives and takes when it comes to answers from Jeremy Adams, but before those revelations, you’ll be treated to a Red vs Green light show that will make you wonder if Christmas has lost its mind! Xermanico, Scott Godlewski, and Romulo Fajardo Jr. perfectly showcase the Lanterns’ Lights as Will Tempers Rage.
