New video games worth playing for the week of 1/29/24

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

As one excellent year for video games ends, another begins. 2024 promises indie darlings and Triple A hits week after week, and those games start launching now.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Persona 3 Reload (2/2)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S

Fan-favorite Persona 3 is the latest Persona title to get a remake from the ground up. Reload features the original’s turn-based combat and social bonding gameplay while adding quality of life updates from the most recent entries, like better objective descriptions and map markers. You’ll play as a transfer student, like in the original, investigating the reality-bending time anomaly The Dark Hour.

Never Mourn (1/29)

Platform: PC

Action-RPG Never Mourn has you playing as a memory-addled powerful necromancer on a quest to save someone close to her. After defeating her enemies, you can use the game’s unique necromancy system to resurrect them as allies under your command. As a rogue-lite, you’ll be able to mix and match spells and minions to command during each run.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2/2)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S

Rocksteady’s first game since 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight launches this week after several delays and, we’ll say, a rocky pre-release marketing campaign. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League puts you behind the firearms of Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang and tasks you with shootin’ the Brainiac-controlled Justice League. Trepidation is high around Suicide Squad as previews were decidedly mixed and major outlets haven’t received review codes prior to its launch. The looter shooter live-service-game-that’s-totally-not-a-live-service-game has a lot to prove when players finally get their hands on it, and it’s already facing an uphill climb to success before it’s even out.
