Little Devil Inside, my most anticipated indie game, shows signs of life with new gameplay trailer

Is a release now on the horizon for Little Devil Inside? One can hope!

Little Devil Inside is the game I refuse to quit, and my desire to see it release — someday, maybe — was given a spark of hope today. The developers took to the game’s original Kickstarter page to update eager fans while also dropping a six-minute gameplay trailer.

After alluding to conflict behind the scene at the studio, including the hiring and parting ways of team members, the developers offered a message to their backers. “Sincere apologies to you all,” they wrote. “All our core founding and starting members [are] still here with the duty and conscience to fulfill what we set out to do. We know this doesn’t and shouldn’t justify for all the delays and lack of news but we’re still here, have been and always will be.”

With 5,000 backers having pledged over $200,000, the developers have plenty of eager gamers to apologize to — and not all of them were receptive of this post, with good reason. The original Kickstarter began in 2015 and the campaign hadn’t been updated since Little Devil Inside was featured in Sony’s PlayStation PlayStation 5 reveal event almost four years ago. I think this counts as a situation where impatient gamers are justified in their anger.

The brief post ends with a hint of optimism, with the team writing, “We have genuinely started discussions regarding publishing and once this clears out, hopefully we’ll be able to answer what everyone wants to know.” I’ll keep my fingers crossed those “discussions regarding publishing” lead to a published game this year, but it’s more likely at this point Little Devil Inside releases as a PlayStation 6 launch title.

The trailer shows off what the game looks like now in the Unreal Engine 5, and includes everything that made gamers fall in love with the game so deeply — its beautiful diorama-like art style, catchy music, fun action-adventure gameplay, and witty indie charm. Check out the trailer for the supernatural exploration game below.
