SDCC ’24: Hulu’s Animayhem Factory returns, bigger and better than ever

We tour Hulu’s Animayhem Factory!

Most people think that Hall H or the convention floor are the prime places to be during San Diego Comic-Con, and while they’re right, some of the best events are outside the con. Case in point: Hulu’s Animayhem Factory. This giant, green, inflatable installation debuted at last year’s SDCC, and I returned this morning to see what Hulu had in store.

The answer was a lot. First up was an activation dedicated to Family Guy, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Visitors interacted with a wall showcasing the Griffin family’s various escapades. The next event, dedicated to Solar Opposites, was also interactive. Putting your hand on a sensor would let you know if you were stressed out or not; I got “really really stressed,” but luckily, I got a free stress ball.

Next up was Hit-Monkey and American Dad! The former had a game where you could try to pull out a set of katanas to see if you were the “Chosen One”; the latter had a game where you tried to help Roger the alien put his organs back in. I came close with the Roger game, but sadly, it turns out that I wasn’t the chosen one.

The final leg of the Animayhem Factory was dedicated to The Simpsons and Futurama and even had food! For The Simpsons, it was – what else? Doughnuts are topped with a green frosting that is meant to represent the radioactive material Homer works with. The Futurama station had “Slurm tasting,” where you could try out a bright green drink based on the future soda. It tasted like lime and pineapple and was so good I understand why Fry kept sucking them down in the show.

Finally, not only did I get a Futurama fanny pack but a set of Futurama pins as well.

Hulu went all out this year to make the Animayhem Factory an experience that wasn’t to be missed. Who knows what next year might bring?
