New video games worth playing for the week of 8/5/24

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

Summer is in full swing, and what better way to beat the heat than staying inside and enjoying indie darlings and Triple A hits releasing week after week? This year has a lot to live up to compared to 2023’s best video games, but it’s been strong so far with releases like Princess Peach: Showtime! and Little Kitty, Big City winning over gamers and cat lovers alike.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand (8/6)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S

Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand releases tomorrow and hopes to win players back to one of 2023’s forgotten releases. In response to player feedback, the Reign of Sand update includes a reworked campaign, revamped progression system, New Game+ mode, the “nightmare” difficulty, and new quests and enemies. Also added is the Source, a new realm where you’ll utilize monster powers as Wraith Abilities to overcome challenges. The Reign of Sand update will be free for existing players, and new players can experience the new and improved version of Atlas Fallen for $39.99.

Creatures of Ava (8/7)

Platforms: PC and Xbox Series X/S

If Palworld is a bit too zany and off-the-walls for you, then check out the empathy-focused creature-saver Creatures of Ava. Across four unique biomes, you’ll tame over 20 creatures and save them from an infection known as “the withering,” which makes them aggressive and violent. Once pacified, the creatures will help you traverse and explore the environments. On your journey to save the world’s creatures, you’ll also uncover the world’s secrets.

Cat Quest III (8/8)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S

The Cat Quest series takes to the seas with Cat Quest III. You’ll play as a purrivateer sailing across the Purribean in search of a lost treasure. Explore the 2.5D pirate-themed world on foot as well as zipping around on your own pirate ship. The series’ classic dungeon-crawling, combo-based combat, and co-op option return, meaning you can uncover buried treasure solo or with a friend.
