New video games worth playing for the week of 9/9/24

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The leaves are turning, football’s kicking off, and the kids are back in school: summer has ended. But fear not, as the fall promises indie darlings and Triple A hits week after week. This year has a lot to live up to compared to 2023’s best video games, but it’s been strong so far with releases like Princess Peach: Showtime! and Little Kitty, Big City winning over gamers and cat lovers alike.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Funko Fusion (9/13)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S

Love ’em or hate ’em, there’s no denying the massive popularity of Funko Pops. It’s only natural that they’d follow in the footsteps of another massively popular toy brand — Lego — and turn their IP glut into a video game with Funko Fusion. Mashing together more than 60 characters from over 20 franchises (mostly from Universal properties), Funko Fusion lets you play out some of your favorite movie moments in Funko form. Each character will have their own unique weapons and skills, and you can play with friends via four-player co-op.

Selfloss (9/12)

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC (released 9/5)

Travel across a Slavic-inspired, post-apocalyptic world in Selfloss. You’ll play as the healer Kazimir who sets off in search of a cure for his wounded soul. His staff will allow him to take on enemies, solve puzzles, and guide a boat through the dreary yet hauntingly beautiful levels. Selfloss promises to be an emotional journey as Kazimir will come across others in need of healing after losing their loved ones.

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics (9/12)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox one

Brace yourself for a whopping nostalgia hit as Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics releases this week. It ports your favorite 90s arcade games to console: The Punisher, X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. The collection will feature online multiplayer, a museum with unlockable concept art, and training modes. For the comics collectors, Marvel will release variant covers in December with artist Bengus’s original character illustrations.
