Moana 2 is set to hit theaters November 27. The highly anticipated sequel finds the titular character teaming up once again with the demigod, Maui, and together, they set sail on another ocean adventure. Ahead of the film’s release, Disney Consumer Products held a virtual product preview of the related merchandise arriving in stores.
Director and co-writer, Dana Ledoux Miller, shared a few words about Moana 2 prior to the product reveals. She discussed where she wanted to take Moana next considering the movie takes place three years after the original.
“It only made sense that we’d bring a crew along on the journey. The crew we came up with is just — You know, are they the best crew in the world? No, but they are a lot of fun. They really test the kind of leader Moana is. In the first film, we didn’t get to see her leading people day to day. But in this film, she’s out on the open ocean with a bunch of people with different personalities that really put her to the test.”
Family is also a big theme found in the franchise, and it’s what fuels the lead character on her journey. Miller said, “[s]he is forced to really reconcile with that idea that she never stops evolving. Even though it’s really hard for her to leave her family behind, especially her little sister, she’s forced to really think about what she wants the future to look like for her sister. That’s what really propels her into the ocean again.”
Many fan favorite characters return for the sequel accompanying Moana on her quest. Along with with the aforementioned Maui, pet rooster Heihei is part of the crew. More importantly, everyone’s favorite potbellied pig his hitting the high seas. Miller explained, “[m]ostly because we want the internet threats to stop, Pua is on the canoe. Turns out people were really mad that Pua wasn’t on the canoe the first time.”
During the actual product preview, a variety of new merchandise was revealed from different companies. Below are our highlights.
Moana 2 Funko Collectibles
Funko Pops! are one of the most popular figures out there, so it’s no surprise that the company would incorporate Moana 2 characters. You can expect a Pop! Maui with his signature magical fishhook, a Pop! Moana and Little Sis Simea, and a Pop! Keychain Moana. These figures will be up for pre-sale on September 30.
Moana 2 LEGO Sets
Help construct the world of Moana 2 with the Moana’s Adventure Canoe and Moana’s Island Fun LEGO building sets. They feature the characters in mini-figure form including her best friend, Pua. The sets will be available in December 2024 and early January 2025.
Moana 2 Costumes and Accessories
With Halloween fast approaching, you can dress like Moana. Jakks Pacific is releasing the Moana’s Adventure Outfit for kids based on her latest look in the sequel. Complete the look with the Sea Star Necklace given to Moana by her younger sibling Simea. It opens up to reveal a sea star and the pendant can light up as well. Maui fans won’t be disappointed with Maui’s Magical Fishhook. It has detailed carvings on the surface and can also light up. These Jakks Pacific products release September 29.
