Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is looking to take over more than just your tabletop. After the franchise featured in the first season of the animated series Secret Level, they are now moving onto pinball with Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant’s Eye.
Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant’s Eye is a collaborative project between Hasbro, Wizards of the Coast, and Stern Pinball, Inc. to celebrate 50 years of the iconic property. We were able to preview it at CES, and it serves as a fun and entertaining fusion of the two types of games.
The story allows players to choose from four different characters at the start, there are three more that can be unlocked, each with their own unique stats and special abilities. Theny then embark on an adventure as a member of the Dragonshield Guild to defeat the Dragon Queen Tiamat before she can rise again. Each game can be different with many paths to take and lands to explore. Thanks to Stern’s Insider Connected feature, you can save your progress so you don’t lose any of the experience points, weapons, gold, and other treasures you have collected.

The voice cast is stacked talent and includes Michael Dorn, Kevin Smith, Luke Gygax, Chris Prynoski, Brendon Small, Gerard Way, Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, and Marisha Ray. The machine itself is visually stunning with artwork from Vincent Proce.
There are plenty of monsters that affect your gameplay. For example, there is a gelatinous cube that can capture a ball either above or below it. But if there is one big bad in all of Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant’s Eye, it is Rath the Relentless, a fully animatronic dragon that can move in all directions and can block shots. It’s voiced by Dorn, and as Director of Marketing Zach Sharpe says, Rath the Relentless is the “most ambitious mechanical creature [Stern Pinball] has created.” Instead of fire, Rath breathes even more pinballs for you to manage. At least you can fight back by activating the shield, which is a barrier that pops up between the flippers.
Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant’s Eye begins shipping next week and is currently available in Pro ($6,999) and Premium ($9,699) editions.
