#5: From the World of Minor Threats: Welcome to Twilight #1

Fantastic Five: Best comics of the week of March 12, 2025

Overall, this is an excellent start to this latest endeavor from the Minor Threats umbrella. It does a great job as an entry point for folks who haven’t read ‘Minor Threats’ before, but also enriches the world for longtime readers. One of the most wonderfully strange universes in comics is getting even more interesting.

#4: Star Trek: Lower Decks #5

Fantastic Five: Best comics of the week of March 12, 2025

Star Trek: Lower Decks #5 is a fun and fast-paced time travel adventure that exemplifies Ryan North’s signature blend of humor and sci-fi smarts. Overflowing with deep Star Trek lore and fantastic visuals, it’s a must-read for fans of the franchise, though casual readers might not catch every reference.

#3: Absolute Superman #5

Fantastic Five: Best comics of the week of March 12, 2025

It’s indisputable that the time taken to create, explore and destroy Krypton in the first arc of this series paid off in dividends. Aaron and Sandoval have created such a compelling foundation for these stories and wonderfully complex interiority for this character moving forward. It feels almost impossible to imagine a world in which this doesn’t have an outside effect on the way in which creators imagine Krypton in the future. By the end of it, readers can’t escape the deep humanity of this work and its Superman-like desire for a better tomorrow.

#2: Snotgirl #19

Fantastic Five: Best comics of the week of March 12, 2025

In addition to being an impressive character piece, Snotgirl is a continual showcase for Leslie Hung’s mastery of comic-making, a prime example of weird noir, and a funny, funny comic. Reading it is one of the highlights of my month.

#1: Assorted Crisis Events #1

Fantastic Five: Best comics of the week of March 12, 2025

Assorted Crisis Events #1 is a triumph of imagination and execution, offering a disorienting but compelling vision of a world where time is unraveling. Camp, Zawadzki, and their creative team balance chaos and clarity well, delivering a comic that’s both surreal and achingly familiar to our own. The first issue proves that experimentation can be exhilarating, and as far as ambitious debuts go, this one feels like a game-changer. Reality is crumbling, and you won’t want to miss a second.
