Harry is at a lonely place on Resident Alien. He had to break it off with his old flame and current babies’ mama, Heather the Blue Avian. Now he’s looking to fill that void in his heart, and he turns to the usual places.
The episode has plenty of silliness. For example, Harry searches for a rebound to cure his loneliness. His game running is awkward and has plenty of room for improvement. It demonstrates he still has many things to learn about being human, despite his current state. Still, maybe not the worst attempt a guy has made and humorous none the less.
Similarly, we see why D’arcy and Judy are perfect partners in crime and are Resident Alien’s resident bad girls. They get into all sorts of crazy shenanigans in the former’s attempt to adopt a dog. She too is longing for companionship after giving up the Hawthorne baby. We also receive a scene highly teased during the private season four premiere screening regarding Judy and her accents. It doesn’t disappoint and it’s such a bizarre attempt that all you can do is laugh.

One of the main themes from “The Human Condition” revolves around the parent child relationship. Harry abandons finding a new lover and turns to his son Bridget. The pair wrestle with their generational and their species differences. Harry becomes very contemplative as he attempts to strengthen their bond.
The most moving moments center around a heart to heart conversation between two fathers; Harry and Peter Bach. Even though they were enemies in the past, they share many things in common. They both have strained relationships with their sons, and are both currently half human and half something else. Terry O’Quinn is so articulate with his worlds, and he can speak with such empathy, earnestness, and wisdom that he can lift any spirit. He’s such a gifted actor you wish he had a bigger role on Resident Alien.
With the focus on parents and children, the episode missed the opportunity to explore the other combinations in Patience. Asta has both, but Jay’s part is so small it’s almost like a cameo. Then, this is Dan’s first appearance all season and they find a way to quickly write him off the show for the time being. At least we have the Hawthornes continuing their hunt for their lost baby. However, the way he goes about his life, you could easily forget that Max is also their son.
Whereas last week revolved around romantic couples, the latest episode explores parents and their children. While Harry’s journey is a moving arc, the others are a missed opportunity.
New episodes of Resident Alien air Fridays on Syfy and USA.
