Pokémon cards have been at the center of a lot of violent crimes in recent years. And, over the holiday weekend, a knife attack ensued at a GameStop in Colma, CA, after a customer cut in line to purchase some cards.
On July 5, 2025, 49-year-old Miguel Orellanas-Flores allegedly tried to skip the line to buy Pokémon cards. However, another patron (the unnamed victim) had a problem with this, and the two got into a heated argument, which turned violent. Orellanas-Flores reportedly bashed the other customer in the head with a glass jar. Another man, 27-year-old Isaiah Calles, joined in and picked up the shards of glass from the broken jar to stab the victim multiple times.
While the two men fled the scene, the fatally wounded patron took pictures of their license plates before the police arrived. The man was then rushed to the hospital in critical condition, and, thankfully, he is now in stable condition.

Pokémon card stabbing culprits are in jail
The suspects, Calles and Orellanas-Flores, have since been arrested. The Colma Police Department stated that the culprits are facing charges for “assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury, battery with serious bodily injury and conspiracy to commit a crime.”
