Just in time for Halloween, Marvel is conjuring up a brand-new magical adventure with Strange Tales, a four-issue limited series launching this October. Written by Jeremy Whitley (Unstoppable Wasp, Navigating with You)—fresh off a Stonewall Honor Award win—and illustrated by Bayleigh Underwood (Marvel United: A Pride Special), the series brings together some of Marvel’s most powerful magic users for a wild, RPG-inspired story.
The cast includes fan-favorites like Scarlet Witch, Wiccan, Nico Minoru, Doctor Strange, and more, blending the supernatural side of the Marvel Universe with the unpredictable energy of tabletop role-playing games.
ROLL THE DICE… IF YOU DARE.
It all begins on Halloween night, when Nico Minoru, her girlfriend Karolina Dean, and friends Billy Kaplan and Teddy Altman gather for a fun night of RPG chaos in Hoosegows and Hydras. But when a mysterious roll of the dice brings goblins into the real world—and causes her friends to vanish—Nico suddenly finds herself on the run through New York City, with a very real dragon close behind.
With nowhere else to turn, she ends up at the Last Door of the Scarlet Witch. Together, these two spellcasters must track down the missing heroes and unravel the mystery of how their tabletop game became terrifyingly real.
“I’ve always loved the spookier corners of the Marvel Universe,” Whitley said. “Getting to mix that with my love of tabletop RPGs—and to see it all come to life through Bayleigh Underwood’s art—was an absolute blast. I think fans are in for a real treat.”
Strange Tales #1 will feature a main cover by Bayleigh Underwood, with variant covers by Annie Wu and Gretel Lusky. Preorders are open now at your local comic shop.
