‘Digman!’ season 2: Saltine and Quail Eegan becoming more confident and more evil

Digman! stars Mitra Jouhari and Tim Meadows talk about their characters in season two.

Digman! recently returned for more treasure hunting adventures with archaeologist Rip Digman and his team. Playing significant roles on the animated series are Saltine, Rips assistant, and Quail Eegan, a billionaire who runs one of the biggest museums in the world. Recently, we spoke with actors Mitra Jouhari (Saltine), and Tim Meadows (Quail Eegan) about what fans can expect from their characters this season.

Both Saltine and Eegan have changed since we first met them. Jouhari said, “I think Saltine is getting more confident and self assured while still retaining that sort of over enthusiastic dorky energy.”

That change in personality also factors into Saltine’s quest to become a full archaeologist, that was mentioned in our interview with show creators Adam Samberg and Neil Campbell. Jouhari shared, “So she goes from being her biggest dream to be an assistant archaeologist to being empowered and trained to be an archaeologist, which ends up being a much harder task than expected. I think she thinks it’s going to be a lot easier than it actually is for her.”

Meadows plays somewhat of an antagonist on Digman! and his character embraces that dark side even more with a caveat this season. He said, “My character, Quail Eegan, becomes a lot more evil in the season and makes a lot of choices that he sort of regrets as the season goes on.” Meadows later added, “He is a lot more deceitful. It was really fun to play it because I was really surprised when I was reading the scenes. It was just a blast to do.”

One of the more endearing relationships on the show is between Saltine and fellow assistant archaeologist Trisket. The pair have formed a unique bond and Jouhari brought some insight from her character’s perspective. There might even be a little bit of life imitating art.

“I think Saltine is totally blown away by Trisket’s cool factor,” she shared. “That part is also played by one of the writers on the show, Rachel Kaly, who I am really obsessed with in real life. So, I think Rachel is immensely, immensely talented and a very bizarre comedian who I love so much so it’s easy for me to be in awe for Trisket.”

Though Digman! season two has only begun, both actors have thoughts of the future. Meadows wants to lean even more into eccentric billionaire behavior. “It would be interesting if my character had multiple wives on a compound and had children with those different wives. I would like to follow that journey. It’s not a weird thing now for a billionaire to have several different women on a compound and having kids with them. It’s acceptable now. I would love that to see how they would explore that.”

Meanwhile, Jouhari has ideas that are out of this world. She said, “I would love to see the gang go to outer space.”

New episodes of Digman! air Wednesdays on Comedy Central.
