Scott Snyder revealed via his newsletter that a new Absolute Universe one-shot is on the way: Absolute Arkham. Co-written by Frank Tieri with art by Joshua Hixson, the series will be “straight up horror” with a “real surprise” tucked away for fans of the Absolute Batman series.
Snyder wrote:
Then we’re going to be announcing soon, so I guess I’m spoiling it, but we have an Arkham special, Absolute Arkham. It’s me and Frank Tieri writing it. And it’s Josh Hixson of The Deviant and just an unbelievable artist. And it’s straight up horror, but it gives like a real surprise about Arkham. A couple of big surprises. So I can’t wait for you to see that. Anyway, hope you’re doing great. Hope all’s
While Snyder calls it “Arkham,” the underground city below Gotham tends to go by Ark M in the comics. At one point in Absolute Batman #9, Batman first enters Ark M, which you can see below. It’s vast, and kind of impossibly big given it’s under Gotham City!
It’s also where Bane operates and creates some rather freakish monstrosities out of innocent people. We’ve already seen Killer Croc’s transformation, so the skies the limit as far as how hard Tieri and Snyder want to go with the horror.
This isn’t the first Absolute Universe special, as Absolute Evil #1 is on the way this October. One thing is for certain, given how incredible The Deviant was via Hixson’s art, we’re in for a treat.
