Marvel confirms the death of the Ultimate Universe (for real this time)

The final issues of Marvel’s new ULTIMATE UNIVERSE revealed, including ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #24, ULTIMATE BLACK PANTHER #24, ULTIMATE X-MEN #24, ULTIMATES #24, and ULTIMATE WOLVERINE #16.

Fresh out of New York Comic Con, Marvel confirmed the Ultimate Universe is wrapping up next year—closing a headline-making run that reimagined classic heroes with bold, modern twists.

At the Next Big Thing panel, Head of Marvel Comics & Franchise Dan Buckley, EIC C.B. Cebulski, senior editor Wil Moss, and writers Deniz Camp and Chris Condon laid out the endgame schedule to a stunned crowd: Ultimate Spider-Man #24 (December), Ultimate Black Panther #24 (January), Ultimate X-Men #24 (February), and both Ultimates #24 and Ultimate Wolverine #16 (April).

Launched out of Ultimate Invasion (June 2023) by Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch, this line spun a world engineered by the Maker—a twisted Reed Richards—where heroes were never meant to rise. They did anyway, just… differently: an older, married Peter Parker in Ultimate Spider-Man; a Japanese student body awakening to powers in Ultimate X-Men; Wakanda under siege by Khonshu in Ultimate Black Panther; Iron Lad building an underground network in Ultimates; and Logan serving as the Maker’s deadliest asset—the Winter Soldier—in Ultimate Wolverine.

From day one, this saga was designed with a finish line: the Maker’s escape. That moment ignites Ultimate Endgame, a five-issue crossover starting in December that pulls every thread together for a final clash—told month-to-month in “real time.”

Marvel also teased fallout for Earth-616 via the Maker’s “Origin Boxes.” In Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #5 (later this month), Miles Morales returns to the main universe carrying several of these devices, seeding new heroes and stories across 2026.

“It’s the culmination of everything Jonathan set in motion… big, definitive, emotional—there will be deaths,” said Camp. Buckley added that fans will be able to experience a true beginning-middle-end and “pass it on” for years.

Keep an eye out for the covers to Ultimate Spider-Man #24, Ultimate Black Panther #24, Ultimate X-Men #24, and upcoming reveals for the final Ultimates and Ultimate Wolverine issues. Preorder at your local shop—and don’t miss Ultimate Endgame #1, which also launches Marvel’s first-ever Blind Bag program featuring randomized variant covers and one-of-one original sketches.
