‘Rick and Morty: The End’ #1 goes “Blind Bag-Less” — because who needs plastic when you have chaos?

As Oni puts it, this isn’t some artsy metaphor — ‘THE END’ really means the end.

Oni Press is tossing the blind bag into a portal and never looking back. Ahead of this December’s milestone release of Rick and Morty: The End #1, the publisher has announced a new “Blind Bag-Less Variant Cover” initiative — the latest innovation in what they’re calling “cutting-edge comic book marketing technology,” and maybe the funniest self-own in comics this year.

Instead of sealing each comic in a plastic mystery bag, these variants come unbagged and unbothered, letting fans instantly see the randomized cover art in all its absurd glory. Each “Blind Bag-Less” variant features Rick and Morty teleporting into one of their greatest (or most defaced) covers from the past decade of Oni’s 100+ issue run — a meta, celebratory sendoff that promises both nostalgia and destruction.

“Why Blind Bag-Less?” Oni Press explains it best: “No flimsy plastic, no waste—nothing to protect you from the raw comic book awesomeness of Rick and Morty teleporting back through time and space.” In other words, it’s a marketing gimmick only Rick and Morty could make sound like a philosophical revolution.

But all jokes aside, Rick and Morty: The End #1 marks a genuine turning point for the long-running series. Written by Daniel Kibblesmith (Loki) with art by Jarrett Williams (Speed Force), the six-issue finale kicks off after the events of Rick and Morty vs. The Universe, with Rick Sanchez now the galaxy’s most wanted man. Every government, bounty hunter, and even “theater troupe” is after him — and the one person who might actually catch him is none other than Morty Smith. Unfortunately, Space Beth is also on his trail, and she’s not exactly taking prisoners.

As Oni puts it, this isn’t some artsy metaphor — “THE END” really means the end. Expect a cosmic-scale showdown that promises to outdo Rick and Morty vs. The Universe and close out a decade of chaotic genius with one last interdimensional bang.

Featuring covers by Dave Bardin, Troy Little, Tom Fowler, and more surprise artists, Rick and Morty: The End #1 hits comic shops this December—completely blind bag-less, totally exposed, and gloriously unhinged.
