Oni Press levels up with major Penguin Random House deal ahead of big 2026 launches

It’s not just about wider distribution, it’s about a turning point. Oni Press is teaming with Penguin Random House Publisher Services as new flagship series and the highly anticipated Archie relaunch come into focus.

Penguin Random House Publisher Services, the sales and distribution arm of Penguin Random House, has announced a new multi-year, worldwide agreement with Oni Press, effective August 1, 2026.

Under the deal, PRHPS will handle global sales and distribution for Oni Press’ full catalog, including frontlist and backlist trade books as well as single-issue comics. This agreement also covers Magnetic Press, Oni’s international graphic novel imprint, with PRHPS distributing titles exclusively across all worldwide sales channels.

Penguin has been making waves in comics for the last few years, like acquiring BOOM! Studios in 2024 and becoming the go-to for publishers, including Dark Horse and Marvel.

The timing lines up with two major releases for the publisher. August will see the launch of Fort Psycho #1, the debut issue of the new flagship series from Matt Kindt’s Flux House imprint, written by Kindt and illustrated by Brian Hurtt. September follows with Archie #1, the first release from Oni’s newly announced partnership with Archie Comics, featuring an ongoing series by writer W. Maxwell Prince and artist Fábio Moon.

David Steward II, Chairman of the Oni-Lion Forge Publishing Group, said the partnership embodies a natural next step for the company. It’s not only about expanding distribution, but it’s also about strengthening Oni’s connection with retailers and readers. He added that PRHPS sets the standard across both the book and direct markets, making it the ideal partner as Oni prepares for one of the strongest publishing lineups in its history.

Oni Press President and Publisher Hunter Gorinson echoed that sentiment, pointing to the company’s long-standing mission to champion creator-driven, visually bold comics. It’s not only about reaching more readers, but also about developing a larger audience for the medium itself. With a major publishing year ahead in 2026 and Oni’s 30th anniversary approaching in 2027, Gorinson said the partnership assures creators’ work will find fans in comic shops and bookstores around the world for years to come.

Founded in 1997, Oni Press has become one of the most influential independent comic and graphic novel publishers of the modern era. The company releases more than 75 titles annually, covering genres and audiences, with a catalog that includes Scott Pilgrim, Gender Queer, the Sheets trilogy, the revived EC Comics library, and Matt Kindt’s Flux House imprint. Its licensed titles range from Choose Your Own Adventure and Cult of the Lamb to Adventure Time, Rick and Morty, Biker Mice from Mars, and more. Recently, Oni also confirmed a new licensing partnership with Archie Comic Publications, set to roll out in fall 2026 with monthly series, deluxe editions, and original graphic novels. Magnetic Press will continue operating as a standalone imprint under the Oni banner, focusing on acclaimed international graphic novels.

Rachel Goldstein, Executive Vice President of PRHPS, praised Oni Press as a champion in creative and commercial success. She said it’s not just the cultural effect of Oni’s books that stands out, but also the publisher’s deep support for creators, adding that PRHPS looks forward to supporting Oni’s global growth.
