Marvel is gearing up for a major shake-up this summer with Avengers: Armageddon, a five-issue event series from writer Chip Zdarsky and artists Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar.
Ahead of its June debut, Marvel has revealed new variant covers for the first issue, including a foil cover by Kaare Andrews and a cover by Jerome Opeña. Fans also get an early look at what is coming with a preview of the prelude story in Armageddon/X-Men #1 CGD 2026, set to be available at participating shops on Comics Giveaway Day on May 2.
The story builds out of Zdarsky’s current Captain America run with Valerio Schiti, along with the Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon limited series with Luca Maresca. The conflict begins in Latveria, where Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross seizes control of Doctor Doom’s homeland, setting off a global crisis. As the Avengers move to stop him, the situation escalates quickly, forcing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to make choices that will reshape how the world sees them.
“ARMAGEDDON HAS ARRIVED!
Red Hulk’s devastating tear across the globe must be stopped…but it will take a colossal gathering of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to do it! Calling in the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Wolverine and more…but who will survive this super-powered cataclysm?! There will be a pre-Armageddon Marvel Universe and a post-Armageddon Marvel Universe. Be here to bear witness to the transformation.”
With stakes this high, the series is positioned as a defining moment for the Avengers, setting the stage for a new era of the title later this year. Fans can expect more reveals, previews, and variant cover announcements in the lead-up to launch.
