Rising creators Jonathan Ball (Last Breeds, Clockfire) and GMB Chomichuk (Blood Letters, Apocrypha: The Legend of Babymetal) are teaming up for The Eye Collector, a new cosmic horror series arriving this June from Image Comics.
The series blends standalone storytelling with a larger, unfolding narrative that stretches across time and space.
“Each issue of The Eye Collector is designed to stand alone as an experience but also feed into a larger, multi-generational story that moves from the Moon to Earth to a weird, surreal future with shades of Metropolis and shadows of David Lynch,” said Ball. “Our goal is to make each issue its own world and stranger than the one before it.”
The story begins with a mysterious moment tied to the Apollo 10 mission, when human wishes made on the Moon awaken the interest of an ancient, spectral being. As its attention turns toward Earth, the question becomes not only what it is, but what it wants.
Chomichuk emphasized the experimental nature of the project. “The Eye Collector is our irreverent experiment in comics storytelling, and over the course of the series you’ll see us using storytelling techniques that only work in comics. You look at the page, and it looks back at you.”
At its core, the series explores desire, perception, and the fragile line between reality and illusion. While the premise taps into broader anxieties about media distortion and artificial intelligence, the narrative narrows its focus on a deeply personal horror. The Eye Collector returns to Earth and targets a struggling family, offering to fulfill the parents’ dreams in exchange for their child’s eyes.
The Eye Collector #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, June 24.
