Exclusive: First trailer revealed for Mathieu Bablet’s ‘Silent Jenny’ Kickstarter graphic novel

The first trailer for ‘Silent Jenny’ reveals a haunting, climate-ravaged future and a deeply human story about rebuilding after everything is lost.

Oni Press and Magnetic Press have unveiled the first trailer for Silent Jenny, the upcoming graphic novel from internationally acclaimed creator Mathieu Bablet, and it offers a haunting glimpse into a future where humanity is forced to rebuild from ecological collapse.

The trailer, released ahead of the book’s Kickstarter launch in the coming weeks, leans heavily into Bablet’s signature strengths: immersive world-building, stark environmental storytelling, and striking, architectural visuals. It teases a broken Earth where climate change and the extinction of pollinating insects have rendered large swaths of land infertile, forcing survivors into massive roaming cities known as monads.

At the center of the story is Jenny, a solitary researcher driven by a near-impossible mission: recover bee DNA and restore pollination to the world. The trailer underscores the emotional core of the narrative, hinting that Jenny’s journey is less about saving the past and more about confronting its loss. The old world is gone, and the future will demand something entirely new.

Check out the trailer below.

“I’m thrilled that after Shangri-La and Carbon & Silicon, the American public will finally discover the end of my science fiction trilogy,” Bablet shared. “I hope you enjoy this plunge into the underworld, exploring the wastelands, and traveling aboard the monads!”

That trilogy context is key. Silent Jenny serves as the final chapter in a body of work that has cemented Bablet as one of the most ambitious sci-fi voices working today. From the long-view collapse of humanity in Carbon & Silicon to the sweeping philosophical scope of Shangri-La, his stories consistently explore what it means to be human in systems that are breaking down.

According to Magnetic Press Director of Publishing Mike Kennedy, Silent Jenny pushes those ideas even further. “The book asks what remains of our humanity when our tools are gone,” Kennedy said. “It’s about environmental reclamation and the search for meaning in a world that has moved on from us.”

The trailer reinforces that tone, blending desert punk aesthetics with quiet, almost wordless moments of isolation and discovery. There’s a clear emphasis on communication beyond language, conveyed through gesture, presence, and action, aligning with the book’s themes of adaptation and survival.

Fans can sign up now to be notified when the Kickstarter campaign launches, with Oni Press positioning Silent Jenny as a prestige release that will appeal to readers drawn to atmospheric, thought-provoking science fiction.

With its evocative trailer and bold premise, Silent Jenny is shaping up to be both a visual spectacle and a deeply reflective conclusion to Bablet’s sci-fi trilogy.
