There’s no rest for the wicked this week on Top Chef. The elimination challenge would be so time consuming that the competition skipped the quickfire. Instead, everyone would be taking on a Carolina classic: barbecue.
The contestants were divided into two teams of five. Since Anthony won the previous elimination challenge, he served as team captain. He also had the advantage of selecting the team captain for the other team.
The teams were tasked with smoking a whole hog. Then they would take part in five head-to-head rounds focusing on a different part of the hog including the shoulder, loin, belly, ham, and chopped. The judges would each have an individual vote while a group of pitmasters would have a collective vote. $5,000 was up for grabs each round for a total of $25,000, plus an additional $500 for each member of the winning team. There was also a little mini-competition in the middle of the night where the winner could earn $500 for the best s’more.
There was a curveball in Last Chance Kitchen as well. The eliminated chef did not join in due to a reason to be explained later. Instead, the chefs that have competed so far had a chance to win $5,000 in a three-way cook off using unique ingredients selected by the chefs still in the running. Only the cash prize was up for grabs except if Rhoda won, she would have an advantage next week.. There were no eliminations or re-entries either.
Here’s our Top Chef season 23 Power Rankings after week 6.
