Rob Liefeld’s Giant-Size Youngblood #1 arrives next month, delivering a 72-page event packed with new characters, returning favorites, and a glimpse at the future of the Youngblood universe.
Published by Image Comics, the oversized one-shot will introduce five brand-new characters who are set to play a major role in the franchise moving forward. According to Liefeld, these heroes will form the foundation of the new Youngblood roster when Youngblood #101 launches this fall.
“Giant-Size Youngblood #1 is chock full of signature moments that shape the future of the franchise,” Liefeld said. “We reintroduce fan favorites The New Men, who were recently glimpsed in Youngblood #100. They will continue to play a key role in our titles from Youngblood to Badrock and beyond.”
“But, most importantly, five all-new, never-before-seen characters emerge to aid Youngblood,” Liefeld continued. “These characters create the core of the new team lineup when Youngblood #101 returns this fall. Giant-Size Youngblood #1 is their official first appearance.”
The issue follows the Youngblood team as they investigate a mysterious island and uncover its hidden inhabitants, setting the stage for the next phase of Liefeld’s expanding superhero universe.
In addition to introducing new heroes, the issue will spotlight a new generation of comic book artists through a lineup of variant covers created by emerging talents Beniamino Bradi, Michael Pedro, and Reese Hannigan. The artists were selected personally by Liefeld following an open call for submissions.
“Part of the pure joy I have experienced in my career is putting fresh, new talents under the spotlight,” Liefeld said. “The ‘Young Bloods,’ as I call them, came out in full force with these incredible covers.”
Giant-Size Youngblood #1 serves as the latest chapter in Liefeld’s “Summer of Youngblood,” a celebration marking the continued expansion of the franchise that helped launch Image Comics. The initiative began with the sellout success and immediate reprinting of Youngblood #100, with additional announcements expected during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
