Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Widow’ solo film seems likely after Jac Schaeffer named as writer

The possibility of a Marvel Studios Black Widow standalone film starring Scarlett Johansson becomes more likely after the attachment of a writer to the project.

News that Kitty Pryde could soon be Marvel’s first female leading role since 2005’s Elektra might’ve been a little hasty — Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow solo effort just crept one step closer to reality.

Variety reports that Jac Schaeffer, “an up and coming scribe who broke out with her Black List script ‘The Shower’,” has been attached as writer to the project:

Sources say this is still very early development, as the film has no greenlight, but naming a writer is the closest the studio has come to moving forward on a standalone pic. Marvel President Kevin Feige met with several candidates before tapping Schaeffer, and Marvel execs met with Johansson to discuss what they wanted from a “Black Widow” writer.

Johansson has portrayed Natalia Alianovna “Natasha” Romanoff/Black Widow since her initial appearance in 2010’s Iron Man 2 and will reprise her role in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 films. According to Box Office Mojo she is the highest grossing actress of all time.
