World of Warcraft: Strand of the Ancients is being removed in Battle For Azeroth

Goodbye, old friend.

There are many changes to PVP coming in Battle For Azeroth — everything from the way world PVP works to how honor talents are acquired is going to be a bit different in BFA as opposed to Legion. Blizzard recently announced some changes coming to the random Battleground queue as well, including the fact that Alterac Valley and Isle of Conquest are being moved into their own, separate “large random Battlegrounds” queue.

But what about Strand of the Ancients, the maligned, vehicular-based Battleground from all the way back in Wrath of the Lich King?

It’s being removed altogether.

No, seriously.

Goodbye, old friend.

Though Strand of the Ancients is certainly not without its issues, it seems like a bit of a hasty move to just straight up delete a Battleground that has existed since 2008. While I’m not personally the biggest fan of the BG, I would have to imagine there are some people out there who actually enjoy attacking giant vehicles and running bombs to walls.

The ability to blacklist Battlegrounds is also going away in BFA, and it seems that Blizzard is trying to come up with ways to alleviate the need to blacklist any at all. I would think Alterac Valley, Isle of Conquest and Strand of the Ancients are among the most blacklisted Battlegrounds in the game, so I suppose that’s one way to fix it.
