It looks like DC’s Stargirl is leaving DC Universe for a quasi-new home. Today, the CW announced that they have renewed the freshman superhero series for a second season and that they will become the exclusive in-season home for the show. The network already airs Stargirl but the day after episodes are shown on the DC Universe streaming platform.
The story follows high school student, Courtney Whitmore, as she balances the life of a regular teen with becoming the titular character all while inspiring a new generation of heroes to confront villains of yore. Created by Geoff Johns, Stargirl was inspired by the co-showrunner’s sister who passed away in a tragic plane crash over 20 years ago.
With this departure, it’s fair to ponder the future of the DC Universe. There are only four scripted originals left and with Doom Patrol also available on HBO Max and rumors of Harley Quinn making the move too, does the streaming service have enough exclusive content to sustain itself?
New episodes of season one of Stargirl can be watched Mondays on DC Universe and Tuesday evenings on the CW. Need to catch up? Read the recaps from our very own Shane Martin.
