2022 has been off to a blazing start for gamers, from major releases like Pokémon Legends: Arceus to Horizon Forbidden West to Elden Ring. With Memorial Day here, summer has (un)officially kicked off, and this season promises plenty of great new games.
Let’s check out what games are hitting storefronts this week.
Lapin (5/31)
Lapin is an adorable 2D platformer from indie developer Studio Doodal. In between heart-warming moments among the rabits, you’ll go on an adventure to find a new home for you and your rabbit friends. There are various collectibles scattered about for you to find and several other characters to interact with. If you need a break from some of 2022’s more serious and challenging games, Lapin looks to be a relaxing way to unwind.
The Last Clockwinder (6/2)
Pontoco’s The Last Clockwinder, the first virtual reality game to be featured in this weekly column, is an upcoming puzzle game for the Meta Quest. You’ll build “contraptions out of your own clones” with looping automation as you attempt to repair an ancient clock tower built inside a massive tree. It’s meant to be a cozy space with a wonderful aesthetic inspired by both nature and the intricacies of watches and clocks.
Diablo: Immortal (6/2)
The Diablo franchise enters the world of mobile gaming this week as Diablo: Immortal arrives on iOS and Android. The MMO will be free-to-play and feature may of the core gameplay tenants of previous Diablo entries, but fans have reason to be skeptical as the game seems to lean towards a pay-to-win model. A Battle Pass system will also be a part of the Immortal experience as both paid and unpaid tiers will keep players engaged through the seasons. Don’t want to play Diablo: Immortal on your phone? You’re in luck — an open beta for a PC version will also launch on the same day.
