Marvel's Midnight Suns DLC

Marvelous heroes we’d love to see join Marvel’s Midnight Suns

Midnight Suns has an excellent roster that I’d love to see grow with more DLC.

After four months of my life and over 120 hours, I’ve finally finished Marvel’s Midnight Suns. And ya know what? I’ve got a fever, and the only prescription is more Midnight Suns! I’ve done just about everything there is to do in the game – maxed out all friendships, beaten the campaign, finished the DLC storyline – and I’m crossing my fingers and toes Firaxis continues to support the game. If they do, here are some Marvel heroes I’m hoping take up residence in The Abbey.

Moon Knight

I always felt like Moon Knight would make a seamless addition to the Midnight Suns roster. His stories always have a touch of the mystical to them, whether he’s facing off against werewolves or ghosts, and he’s even had run-ins with vampires, the theme of the first DLC season. Plus, The Hunter bonding with Marc – and Steven and Jake – would make for an interesting dynamic. I’d be really interested in seeing how the game handles Moon Knight’s multiple personas in both The Abbey and its combat. Gameplay-wise, I could see Moon Knight playing similarly to Wolverine, Blade, and Morbius – slicing up enemies, chaining strikes, and making foes bleed.

At the end of the day, who doesn’t want to kick Lilin ass in a fresh-pressed white suit?

Loki

Loki would be the absolute best new character for Midnight Suns. Narratively, he can fill any role the developers want. He can be an enemy-turned-ally, a do–gooder team member as Kid Loki, or simply the God of Mischief joining the team for shits and giggles. I’d love to see what direction his interactions with the other Suns would take, and especially his friendship with The Hunter. All of The Hunter’s friendships in the game feel so genuine, and I really wonder if Loki is someone where a genuine friendship would be possible. How would The Hunter react to him telling them how special they are? Would anything Loki say be sincere or all part of a larger ploy? Loki’s God of Lies versus God of Stories push and pull would throw a great curveball into the Abbey dynamic.

Daredevil

You’re telling me a superhero dressing up with devil horns wasn’t on the initial roster for a game where you fight literal demons? Let’s fix this ASAP and get Daredevil into Midnight Suns. Does he have any real reason narratively to join? Can his gameplay be distinct enough to stand out? Does anyone know why I’m overusing rhetorical questions in this paragraph? “Maybe not” is the answer to all of the above, but that doesn’t matter. Daredevil would make a fantastic addition to the roster. Traditionally a loner, he’d be slightly out of his comfort zone working with heroes he doesn’t have much relationships with, which is all the more reason to get him on his way to being BFFs with The Hunter.

Colossus

We can’t have a fresh wave of DLC without adding another mutant, and having Colossus join would be too much fun around the Abbey. I’d love seeing the Piotr/Illyana relationship develop in the game, and, as The Hunter, it’d be fun befriending both siblings. In terms of gameplay, Colossus might not bring enough new elements to the table – I imagine he would be too similar to bruisers like the Hulk and Captain America. Regardless, he’s been one of my favorite X-Men since I became a fan of the team and I’d love to see him in the game.

Ms. Marvel

Ms. Marvel isn’t having the, uh, best of times in the comics universe lately. However, she’s certainly taken the spotlight in other Marvel media, from starring in her own Disney+ show to being the protagonist of Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers game. She’ll star in The Marvels this summer, meaning now is the best time to make her an honorary Midnight Sun. I think Kamala would get along well with the younger heroes like Nico, Magik, and Robbie, and she has comic history working well with Spider-Man and Wolverine. For gameplay, I could see her being a bruiser with her unique ability to embiggen once an “embiggen meter” gets filled. I’d love to see some of her more forgotten powers, like shrinking and changing her appearance Mystique-style, make a comeback in the game.

Doctor Doom

Narratively, I know Doctor Doom wouldn’t work. Not to get too much into minor story spoilers, but he would clearly be a villain in a Midnight Suns sequel if Firaxis made one (unfortunately, the writing’s on the wall). But who cares about that! This is hypothetical DLC we’re talking about. The real DLC added a former villain in Venom and a sometimes villain, sometimes hero in Morbius to the roster, so I’m sure there’s room for Doom.

Doom’s gameplay could be unlike any other character’s. Blending mysticism and technology opens up a lot of doors in terms of abilities, and I can imagine him summoning Doombots to the fray for added support a la Magik’s Reinforcement card. Befriending Doom could be a unique challenge as he’s known to be quite frosty toward most Marvel heroes, and has battled them as an enemy countless times. Regardless, I can’t wait to see him take the spotlight in a Marvel game, whether that’s Midnight Suns or something new down the line.
