Kendrick Lamar/TDE to produce ‘Black Panther: The Album’

Grammy-award-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar will produce/curate music for Black Panther: The Album.

“All the Stars” (feat. SZA) won’t be Grammy-award-winning rapper/songwriter Kendrick Lamar’s only contribution to the Black Panther movie soundtrack. Kendrick, alongside Billboard Magazine’s Executive of the Year, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith will produce and curate the music for Black Panther: The Album in its entirety.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, who highly endorsed Kendrick for the position, said in a press release, “I am honored to be working with such an incredible artist whose work has been so inspirational, and whose artistic themes align with those we explore in the film. I can’t wait for the world to hear what Kendrick and TDE have in store.”

Kendrick himself also expressed his enthusiasm: “Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel’s vision.” The endeavor marks the first time that Kendrick, named “greatest rapper alive” by Rolling Stone “will write, produce, perform and curate for a major motion picture.”

Black Panther hits theaters on February 16th; the soundtrack is due out February 9th.
