Jeff Kaplan provides update on Overwatch’s new Looking for Group system

Despite community skepticism, the new system appears to be working.

The latest Overwatch patch has brought quite a few changes to the game. The most notable being a massive Symmetra rework, the Endorsement system and Looking for Group.

Looking for Group is a feature that has been long-awaited by the Overwatch community, as it allows players to create teams that fulfill their ideal group configurations. With this new feature you can create or join groups that have the exact preference you’re looking for; whether it be three tanks, one healer or five damage dealers-it’s completely up to you. Which is why players have wanted it so badly for so long. Instead of relying on matchmaking to create the ideal group, you can do it yourself.

Yesterday Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan, shared an update on the progress of Looking for Group, “In the first week, instances of players grouping in 6-stacks has doubled. The awesome part is, 6 stacks have seen a significant improvement in queue times. But the best part is, none of this has impacted any other group size queue times or solo queue times at all. So it’s been purely a positive in that regard.”

Kaplan also had some stats to share via a graph, to back up his claims with some cold hard data. You can see the huge spike in players queuing for their season 11 placement matches with Looking for Group.

If you’re in the camp of players who think the new system has flaws and needs some tweaks, don’t worry, Kaplan does too, “Don’t worry, we have changes and improvements coming in the next patch.”
