Overwatch League’s first ever female coach has signed with Washington, DC

Another piece of Overwatch League history has been written today.

Today the Washington, DC Overwatch League team announced the signings of two new staff members: assistant coach Kyoung Ey Molly “AVALLA” Kim  from Meta Bellum and analyst Mikael “mkL” Skjønhaug from Last Night’s Leftovers.

Molly “AVALLA” Kim is the first woman to be signed as a coach in the Overwatch League. AVALLA has previously served as a head coach for Frescia Gaming and worked as an assistant coach with OpTic Academy and Meta Bellum. In addition to coaching several teams through the Korean Contenders league, AVALLA is an exceptionally skilled Overwatch player, having peaked at rank 78 on the Korean Overwatch ladder.

Mikael “mkL” Skjønhaug has previous experience working with AVALLA, as he also spend time as an analyst for OpTic Academy. He also spent time working as an analyst for Last Night’s Leftovers, during their playoff run. As with AVALLA, mkL has experience outside of the analyst role, having been an original Overwatch beta player and former coach for several European teams.

Washington, DC’s team’s head coach Hyeong-seok “WizardHyeong” Kim, had this to say on the signings, “I’m happy to have AVALLA and mkL join the coaching staff. They bring international experience and a great work ethic. Together, we’re well on our way to building the best coaching staff in the league.”

WizardHyeong was signed by the Washington, DC team earlier this month alongside former NYXL player Janus.
