German developer Rockfish Games surprised Gamescom opening night attendees with the debut trailer for Everspace 2, the sequel to the 2017 rogue-like space shooter.
You wanted it, you get it: #Everspace2 will be a #singleplayer #openworld #space #shooter w/ RPG elements, tons of loot and a thrilling story! 1st on @steam_games #EarlyAccess in 2020, followed by full release on #PC, #PS4 and #Xbox in 2021. @UnrealEngine https://t.co/eDHM6tHDAx

The trailer features in-game footage from a pre-alpha build but already looks more polished and expansive than it’s predecessor. Judging from the trailer alone the sequel boasts a wider variety of ships, more diverse environments, mysterious space creatures, and the signature pulse-pounding dog-fighting that made the original game so engaging.
Rockfish Games promises more of the excellent story and gameplay elements from the first game while offering more expansive RPG-elements and an even more explorable open-world setting. There’s been no official word on multiplayer yet, but Rockfish seems adamant that this will be a single-player only experience.

Everspace flew under the radar in 2018 when it released on consoles, scoring a 9 out of 10 here at AiPT! for its intriguing narrative, rewarding life/death cycle, visually stunning procedurally generated environments, and absolutely exhilarating dogfights and flight sequences. It’s a rare gem of a game that will please fans of many genres and is a must-play for all sci-fi or space shooter fans.
Everspace 2 will release first on Steam Early Access in 2020 before it gets a full release on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in 2021. For more information, check out this full Let’s Play demo from Gamescom 2019.
