It appears that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is a real thing and will be in the hands of players at some point this year. Today’s update to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare delivered some downloadable content and other minors changes, but there was apparently much more happening behind the scenes as data miners uncovered strong evidence for an upcoming remastered release of the hugely popular MW 2.
The data miner Senescallo revealed a number of details on the leak on Reddit, sharing artwork, and details on what players will earn when purchasing the game. Here’s some of what was released on purchase rewards:

It’s not clear if Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered will be released as a full game that includes multiplayer, or as just the single player campaign. It would certainly be a bit unusual if Activision were to withhold multiplayer when you consider how incredibly short the campaign for MW2 was. There’s also no word on whether or not MW2 Remastered will be DLC content for Modern Warfare or a standalone purchase.
Activision has yet to comment on the leak, but given the craze surrounding it, I have to imagine a comment will be released sooner rather than later. Especially when you consider the fact that they added the file to Modern Warfare live servers today.
