In celebration of The Last of Us Day 2021, Naughty Dog gave us our first glimpse at HBO’s upcoming The Last of Us TV series. We see Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie (and their signature backpacks).

The ten-episode series started production in June of this year in Calgary, Alberta and is expected to debut on HBO and HBO Max in 2022. Also in the cast are Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, and Con O’Neill as Bill. The series will mostly cover the events of the first game.
No game announcements were made today, even though fans were hoping for an update on the upcoming Factions multiplayer mode, which is still without a release date. However, we were given plenty of new merchandise to purchase, including apparel and accessories, a Joel statue from Dark Horse, and, my personal favorite, Mondo’s The Last of Us Part II: Covers and Rarities on vinyl.
The first game released in 2013 to rave reviews and its sequel, The Last of Us Part II, released a little over a year ago to similar praise, though its reception was marred by story leaks and misleading marketing. A third installment has yet to be released, and, if it gets made and follows suit with the previous two games, we shouldn’t expect a TLOU Part III until the end of the PS5 generation.
