2022 has been off to a blazing start for gamers, from major releases like Pokémon Legends: Arceus to Horizon Forbidden West to Elden Ring. May promises plenty of exciting new releases, so let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.
Outward: Definitive Edition (5/17)
Fantasy RPG Outward rereleases this week with its Definitive Edition. It includes the two DLC adventures, “Three Brothers” and “The Soroboreans,”as well as new and updated content. You’ll journey across Aurai solo or with friends and encounter all the terrifying creatures, vast dungeons, and untamed lands it has to offer while avoiding the Corruption infecting the land.
Vampire: The Masquerade — Swansong (5/19)
Vampire: The Masquerade– Swansong is the second game in the series releasing in as many months after Bloodhunt came out just a few weeks ago. Swansong will be closer to something like a Quantic Dream game than the battle royale Bloodhunt. It’s a story-driven RPG where players will control three vampires and at various times face situations where morally grey choices have to be made. While Swansong will reference previous Vampire: The Masquerade games, it’s been developed to be approachable to newcomers to the franchise.
2022 might end up being the Year of the Soulslike when it’s all said and done. Dolmen brings sci-fi action, cosmic horror, and soulslike gameplay together this week. The action RPG sends players to the planet Revion Prime to collect crystals, called Dolmen, that grant the power to interact with other realities (2022 is also the year of the multiverses!). Gameplay mixes melee combat with third-person shooting, which brings a new element to the usually swords & sorcery soulslike genre. Dolmen promises to be difficult, terrifying, and punishing — just the way we like ’em.
