Marvel Legends: Retro Animated Spider-Man figure revealed

It’s not the Retro Spider-Man reissue many wanted, but this is still a great looking figure.

On Friday, toy reviewer ToyShiz took to his Instagram and YouTube channels to exclusively reveal Marvel Legends’ Animated Spider-Man figure for their Retro Collection line.

According to his video, this will be an online exclusive for Walmart, which is a double whammy of pain. It will also cost $25, which has sadly become a reasonable price for an exclusive.

As for the figure itself, it’s based on Spidey’s look from the 1990s Animated Series. While the likeness and articulation are fantastic, the paint job features some cel-shading. I’m definitely not a fan of that style, but it isn’t glaring enough to detract from what is a very nice-looking toy. It also comes with two sets of alternate hands and some webs.

In the screenshot from ToyShiz’s video above, you can see that the figure (middle) isn’t as tall as the previous Retro Collection Spider-Man (right), which goes for crazy amounts on the aftermarket. While I was hoping for a straight re-release of that one, but the animated figure is different enough that it’s still worth considering.

If you want your own Marvel Legends Animated Spider-Man, preorders are scheduled to go up at some point on Thursday, July 21 at Walmart.com. No word on when they’ll inevitably be canceled.
