The biggest new video games releasing the week of 8/15/22

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The summer of gaming is in full swing! The year started off fantastically, with major releases like Pokémon Legends: Arceus to Horizon Forbidden West to Elden Ring all releasing in early 2022, and that fantastic trend looks to continue through the summer months with bombastic Triple A games and indie darlings releasing left and right.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Dungeons & Dragons: Spelljammer — Adventures in Space (8/16)

The Spelljammer setting for Dungeons & Dragons receives a fifth edition update this week. Players and DMs can purchase the box set Spelljammer: Adventures in Space and have everything they need to start a campaign amongst the stars. Included are three hardcover books (a Dungeon Master guide, an adventure module, and a bestiary), a DM screen, and a double-sided poster.

Rollerdrome (8/16)

Revealed in June and already set to release, Rollerdrome combines skating and shooting in one gnarly package. From the developers of OlliOlli World, Rollerdrome will have players competing to see who can pull off the sickest tricks and rack up the most kills to win the deadliest roller derby around. While the gameplay appears primed for multiplayer, Rollerdrome is instead a single-player, story-based game where you’ll be following a newcomer to the sport as she unravels a mystery surrounding it.

Madden NFL 23 (8/18)

Madden has yet to really strike gold during the current console generation, and EA Sports hopes to turn that around with the release of Madden NFL 23. Featuring the series’ namesake on its cover, 23 offers up the usual year-to-year enhancements (improved graphics, better performance, updated rosters) while also promising new franchise mode additions, a new passing mechanic, and updated defensive animations. Let’s just hope it’s better than last year’s entry (which I admittedly played way too much of!).

Also check out Kirby’s Dream Buffet, RPG Time: The Legend of Wright, and Warhammer: Age of Sigmar — Warcry: Heart of Ghur.
