The biggest new video games releasing the week of 8/29/22

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The summer of gaming is almost at an end, but the great releases haven’t stopped yet! While we wait for fall 2022‘s major releases, like Pokémon Scarlet & Violet and God of War Ragnarök, let’s check out what’s releasing this week.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection (8/30)

Hot off the heels of smash-hit Shredder’s Revenge, TMNT fans get to enjoy even more Turtles games before the summer’s out. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection collects 13 retro TMNT games originally released between 1989 to 1993. The games were originally released for arcades, Game Boy, NES, SNES, or Sega Genesis. The collection will see new features added like button mapping, save states, and online multiplayer for certain titles. Previously unreleased artwork from the games’ development will be featured in an in-game museum.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R (9/1)

Anime fans are in for a treat with the release of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R. It remasters 2013’s original All Star Battle from CyberConnect2 and adds updated fighting mechanics, new characters, and more stages. Over 50 characters are playable from the series’ eight arcs, plus Ikuro Hashizawa from Hirohiko Araki’s earlier series Baoh. The game celebrates Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure‘s 35th manga anniversary and 10th anime anniversary.

The Last of Us Part I (9/2)

The long-rumored and only recently confirmed The Last of Us Part I remake officially launches for the PS5 this week. The remake will improve the visuals of the first game, bring its character designs more in line with Part II, incorporate haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, and add a host of accessibility options. While many fans have wondered why such a recent (and recently remastered) game was getting remade — and for a $70 price tag — the game was potentially made because Naughty Dog’s other projects haven’t entered production yet and this remake gave the developers something to do (re: not get laid off). Regardless, the game looks amazing and more The Last of Us is never a bad thing.
